FAQs

  • Am I eligible to apply?
    All three of the criteria must be met to be eligible: Applicant and co-applicant (if applicable) must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident and reside in Manitoba. Applicant and co-applicant (if applicable) must have valid Manitoba health cards. Applicant and co-applicant (if applicable) currently cannot conceive and are a patient of a fertility clinic in Manitoba.
  • What do I need to apply?

  • How much is the grant?
    The amount of the grant will be a maximum of $5,000 depending on the type of treatment. Only those receiving IVF treatment will be awarded the maximum of $5,000.
  • How is the grant disbursed? Do I get it directly?
    The Gift of Love & Hope Inc. will disburse the grant directly to the fertility clinic. The grant is NOT disbursed directly to the recipient.
  • How is the recipient of the grant chosen?
    The board of directors will review applications and choose the recipient.
  • What if I already started treatment?
    Treatment that has been paid will not be reimbursed. The grant will only cover upcoming costs.
  • When is the grant awarded? How will I know if I am awarded the grant?
    The recipient will be awarded the grant within 4 weeks after the application deadline. Each applicant will be notified by email on whether or not they were awarded the grant. Click here to view grant offering details.
  • What costs are covered by the grant?
    The grant can be used to cover expenses associated with assisted reproduction such as In Vitro Fertilization (IVF), Intrauterine Insemination (IUI), FET (Frozen Embryo Transfer), egg and sperm donation, and gestational surrogacy. The grant does not cover the storage costs and fertility medication.
  • How many grants are available and how many grants are disbursed in the year?
    We are disbursing at least one grant each year, based on the availability of funds. Our first grant application will be open on February 1, 2025.
  • Does the grant have to be used right away?
    The grant must be spent within twelve months from the date the applicant is informed that the grant funds have been approved. If not used within twelve months, it will be withdrawn. However, under special circumstances the duration can be extended upon Board approval.
  • If I am not selected, can I apply again in the future?
    Yes. Applications will be retained for one year from the submission deadline and will be considered for future grant opportunities. After the one year, a new application and application fee must be submitted.
  • What is the $50 application fee for?
    The application fee is treated as a donation and will contribute to the funding of our grants.
  • When is the deadline of the application?
    The deadline of the application will be listed on our website under Grant Offerings.
  • Does my financial status affect the eligibility of the grant?
    The application form requires assets and liabilities information. However, financial status does not impact the eligibility of the grant.
  • Can single or members of the 2SLGBTQ+ community be eligible for the grant?
    Yes, single or members of the 2SLGBTQ+ community are eligible for the grant.
  • As a grant recipient, can I apply expenses covered by the grant toward the Manitoba Fertility Treatment Tax Credit?
    No, the Manitoba Fertility Tax Credit only covers out of pocket expenses.
